Review: Garmin 310 XT Heart Rate Monitor
The year 2009 has been a breakthrough time for Garmin’s heart rate monitors. With the release of two new models, they are clearly going all out to establish themselves in this market. With stiff competition in the heart rate monitor industry, companies are looking for that one thing that will place them in front of the pack. There is a lot of hope riding on the success of these two new Garmin heart rate monitors, the Garmin FR60 and the Garmin 310 XT. This is a review on the latter. It is going to be the latest release by Garmin.
Fine Garmin Heart Rate Monitor Features
The 310XT takes Garmin Heart Rate Monitors to a whole new level. It is water resistant down to 50 meters thus making it Garmin’s first swim-proof device for training. This has been a major milestone for the company. It incorporates the new HotFix™ feature that gives the 310 a quicker satellite reception for its very highly sensitive GPS system.
This Garmin heart rate monitor comes with a water proof chest strap that is soft, streamlined and quite comfortable. It is durable and works well in the water. Another great feature is that straight out of the water, you can hop onto a bike and carry on with your workout. The Garmin 310 fits perfectly into that routine.
Strengths and Features
This heart rate monitor is the ideal companion and tool for those serious athletes looking to excel in their sporting fields. For the average person looking for a tool to help them lose weight or get fit, the 310XT is also perfect for that.
The Garmin 310XT has Garmin’s new Connect™ which is simply an application which is web based that allows users to store and share workouts. This is all done through their wireless based ANT+™ system. This is a pretty handy feature for the heart rate monitor of tomorrow.

Shortfalls
One of the problems with this Garmin Heart Rate Monitor is that when the user is in the water, the Garmin 310 does not read heart rate. This may be a problem for people who look to do their workouts more in the water than on land. Another downfall is size because this monitor is kind of bulky. However, this is not a design flaw.
All in all, the 310 is a real good looking heart rate monitor with features to match. If you are looking to step up your efforts in the gym, on the road or in the water, the Garmin 310 heart rate monitor is your perfect bet.
